James Whale and his Fund Team To Attend March on NICE Offices

The James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer, the UK’s leading specialist kidney cancer charity, has announced it will attend and stand shoulder to shoulder with the peaceful demonstrators as they lobby the offices of NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) on Wednesday 26th August.

The demonstration is in reply to the announcement earlier in the month that the NHS will be stopped from prescribing vital, life extending and sometime life saving drug to kidney cancer patients. The denial of drugs Sutent, Avastin, Nexavar and Torisel, which have been clinically proven to improve quality of life for kidney cancer sufferers as well as extend a life by up to two years will condemned many kidney cancer patients to certain death.

Fund chairman, TV presenter and radio broadcaster, James Whale said; “The NICE ruling could go down as a modern day atrocity and it will happen here in the modern, western World. The ‘suits’ at NICE are making decisions on whether people have a decent quality of life based on flawed information; all in the name of budgets.

“These drugs extend kidney cancer sufferers lives. They give some ones father, mother or child precious time with their family. I have said it before and I’ll keep saying it: How can you tell a child’s parents another year of life is too expensive? This demonstration is our opportunity to show solidarity and demand treatment and care for the sick, which must NEVER be compromised.”
