Overview

England - Primary Care Trust (PCT)

Each separate PCT in England (Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland have a Regional Equivalent:Local Health Board LHB etc.) can be accessed by name if you search through the Index 'Hospitals + Trusts' to do so Click Here

Primary Care Trusts are Local Health Authorities. They are the local health body responsible for commissioning services from GP's, Dentists, Acute Hospitals etc.

Each trust is headed by a board consisting of Executives/ Officers (salaried employees) and non-executive directors(lay people appointed by the Appointments Commission). The Trust Chairperson will be a non-executive director.The Trust Chief Executive will be a salaried employee. Non-executive directors are recruited by open advertisement and positions are open to everyone to apply for if they wish. Non Executive Directors have a specific responsibility for Patient & Public Involvement in running the Trust and to protect the interests of their local community.

A huge amount of detailed data about each and every PCT together with details of spend per patient per disease etc. and number of Medical Practices can be found from the Unadjusted Disease Prevalence - Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) for April 2006 - March 2007, England. Including the Numbers of QOF disease registers and unadjusted prevalence rates by Primary Care Trust.
